Unboxing

Inside the box we will find the controller, packed in a custom foam rubber so that the transport of the controller does not create any danger to the device and in the lower area, the 3 meter long cable with a small operation guide.

Buttons and Joysticks

This controller brings with it a few features that evidence its approach to the classic arcade mode of old controllers back in the days when arcades were the queens of many cafes and arcades.

As for the main buttons (X, Square, Circle, Triangle, R1 and L1) they are machined by Razer itself and the size is quite a bit larger than on standard controllers.

This brings this fightpad closer to the arcade controllers of the arcades of a lifetime and makes it easier to press.

The rest of the buttons have digital switches and their press is similar to the buttons of a computer mouse, which gives it a great feeling of quality and shows that Razer knows what it does.

In addition to the standard buttons (Triggers, D-Pad, PS Button, Share and Options), it also has 2 buttons for audio; one for muting the microphone and one for volume control, both on the bottom area of the controller.

We can put the controller in competitive mode by pressing the mute and volume control buttons, what this does is to block the PS, Options and Share buttons in case we have any oversight in any competition and takes us out of the game.

As for the crosshead, we find an extraordinary 8-way Directional Pad with digital switches and tactile feedback, which makes every time you press in a direction you feel a slight vibration indicating where we have pressed the D-Pad.

In the rear area there is a selector to play in PS4 mode or PC mode. In PC mode the use of the audio jack is not available.

In the lower area we find 2 tabs to modify the way the crosshead and triggers behave.

The one for the crosshead allows us to choose between DP (Directional Pad) mode in which the crosshead behaves as it should, LS (Left Stick) mode in case we need to make movements that would be mapped only on the left joystick and finally RS (Right Stick) mode that does the same with the right joystick.

This would be useful for some games in which we necessarily need to use any of the 2 joysticks.

Finally, the other tab allows us to choose between the standard mode of the triggers (L1/L2 – R1/R2) or the mode (L3/R3 – L1/L2) in case we need to do some action in a game mapped to the trigger press.

Ergonomics, design and connectivity

At first glance we can see that it has no joysticks, which are not usually found in fighting games, plus the R1 and R2 buttons are included on the front panel for more possibilities to perform combos.

This is because competitive fighting game players usually hold the controller with one hand and rest it on their legs, so that the right hand is free for more attack combinations.

For the same reason, the width of the controller is longer than usual, so that this typical position of competitive fighting players is more comfortable and makes it easier to press the buttons.

You can tell that it is a high quality gamepad by the materials with which it is built, also by the button press, where Razer usually leaves a pretty high bar in their controls, as for example in the Razer Raiju Ultimate.

Finally, the cable that comes with the controller measures 3 meters, which gives us a plus of mobility in case we want to separate from the console.

My impressions of the controller

This controller is created for professional gamers or simply lovers of fighting games and the truth is that I personally think they will be happy with the purchase, both for the arcade additions and for the quality of the gamepad.

I believe this because you can tell that Razer has pampered many of the details that these gamers use; the length of the controller, the 6 machined front buttons, the digital switches on the rest of the buttons, the crosshead with tactile feedback…

So if you’re thinking of taking your fighting game level to the next step and you have a PS4, I highly recommend this controller.
