Contents of the box
If we open the the box we find a case and the instruction manual with some Razer stickers razer stickers.
The hard carrying case is great for transporting our controller, it has the Razer logo printed in vinyl both outside and inside and inside we can find:
The Razer Raiju Ultimate, a 3-meter USB-microphone coated with a protective mesh, 2 Interchangeable Sticks and an interchangeable crosshead (D-Pad).
Buttons and Joysticks
As for the button press, Razer marks a big difference with the rest of the companies, and that is that in the Raiju Ultimate the buttons have digital switches designed by the company itself that resemble the buttons of PC mice.
This means that the response is instantaneous, improving on the analog press of standard controllers.
The sticks are also another quality element. They have a rough surface feel to prevent slipping and control satisfactorily.
They are also interchangeable and the process is more than simple. Just grab the edge and pull them out as the attachment works with a cross-shaped socket and they fit through magnets.
By default the left movement joystick is concave (inward) and the right joystick is convex (outward) right joystick is convex (outward).
We have 2 extra concave joysticks with different heights, in case we want to have the right joystick similar to the left one or if we want it higher.
The triggers have a more elongated shape than normal, which allows an easier pressing and are also made of a material similar to steel, which gives a high quality finish.
In the rear area we have 2 trigger lockers in the form of a tab. As simple as changing the position of the tab, the trigger travel decreases.
This is an advantage in games such as shooters, where with less travel we manage to execute the shot. In addition, the gamepad incorporates 2 extra triggers which we discuss below.
One of the features of this controller, if not the most important are the 4 extra buttons; 2 levers in the rear area and 2 extra triggers.
These buttons allow us to replicate any button on the controller, which means that we won’t need to lift our fingers off the joystick to execute certain movements, such as jumping and aiming at the same time in shooters.
In this version, the position and shape of the rear buttons have been improved compared to the first version of the Raiju. So that pressing them is now more natural.
There is also a tab in the rear area to choose between PS4 Bluetooth, PC Bluetooth or USB modes.
The crosshead or D-Pad is also an interchangeable element.
We can choose between a single arrow style crosshead, with a similar operation to those of the Dualshock similar to those of the Dualshock 4 or a crosshead with a style more similar to that of the Microsoft Elite Controller, which works microsoft Elite Controller, which works as a single piece and facilitates diagonal movements diagonal movements.
Mapping mapping button
Remapping a button in real time is a fairly simple task, just follow these steps:
- We press and hold the mapping button (the first one) until the LED blinks
- Without releasing it, we press the extra button we want to map
- Without releasing any of the previous buttons, press the button to be mapped until the controller vibrates
- It is already configured
If we press only once that same button we can change the color of the Chroma.
If we press the second button for 3 seconds, its LED will blink to enter synchronization mode with the Razer Raiju APP.
To exit mode, press the same button again for 3 seconds.
Razer Button Chroma
If we press the third button we can change the lighting behavior in real time, we can also adjust it in the app, which we will talk about later.
We can also adjust the brightness of the Chroma by holding down the button and pressing up or down on the D-Pad.
Lock button lock button
The last configuration button allows us to lock the PS, Share, Options and configuration buttons, to avoid unforeseen events in the middle of a game.
Razer Raiju Ultimate APP
The people at Razer have shown that they live in the present and have developed an app for both Android and iOs to create and edit profiles.
By default there are 4 profiles: Shooter, Fighting, Sports and Racing with preset settings, but the most interesting thing is to create our own and leave it to our liking.
Assignment and sensitivity of the sticks
We can edit the button we want to replicate on the rear sticks and the extra triggers. In this section we can also modify the sensitivity of the joysticks.
With the app, we can also choose the intensity of the vibration, both left and right motor separately.
A differentiating aspect of the controller is the Razer Chroma. From this app we can choose the way it will behave. We can choose between breathing, immersive, reactive, spectrum, static and wave effects.
Each of these modes behaves in a different way and has a spectrum of up to 16.8 million colors. In addition, we can also adjust the intensity of the Chroma brightness.
In short, Razer has made an intuitive and easy to use app.
Ergonomics, design and connectivity
The Raiju Ultimate has a satisfactory grip, it is easy to reach all the buttons and press them.
In the rear area it has a non-slip material, for games that make us sweat a lot. As soon as we pick up the controller we can notice that we are in front of a robust and quality device.
This is so for several factors such as weight, the feel of the buttons, the simplicity of the configuration and the design of the controller itself, which stands out from the general line of PS4 and gives a great presence to the view.
In terms of connectivity we can use it in both Bluetooth and USB mode, both modes are available on PS4 and PC (Windows).
It also has 3.5mm audio connection for headphones with microphone.
My impressions of the controller
The Razer Raiju Ultimate left a good taste in my mouth. For the robustness of the gamepad, for the design it has, the ease of grip and for the intuitive customization that we have both in real time and in the app.
- Ease of customization
- Attractive design
- Intuitive APP
- Buttons with digital switches
- Wired or Bluetooth connectivity
- Missing a second convex joystick
- No integrated speaker
